The reason I make a great tutor is that I was once just like many of the students I now tutor. While a teenager, I was an underachiever on the academic front, so I can empathize with students who have a hard time getting the sorts of grades that they want.It wasn't until I was about 23 years old that I discovered the sort of environment in which I could turn things around and be a better student. Specifically, I got a hospital job and soon discovered that I had a fascination with medicine. After that epiphany, I achieved success after success, and I'm about to add another success to the list since I'll be graduating this spring from Columbia.Since discovering my love of the medical field, I've worked in a number of renowned laboratories and hospitals. The most critical thing, though, is that I, formerly an academic failure, now have a hunger for learning. As a tutor, I can relate to students since I know failure and success in the academic environment, and this makes me a unique person who can relate to students of different skill levels. What separates the successful from the less successful is commitment, and I can get through to students to help them see this so that they can dig down deep and reach their goals.
